Based on the sequence information of the heterochronic gene lin - 28 from multiple species, a cDNA, putatively encoding a heterochronic gene, was isolated from silkworm, Dazao strain. RT-PCR analysis showed that Brnlin - 28 displayed a tissue/stage-specific expression profile, expressed in the ovary, testis and hemocyte of day 3 fifth instar lavrae, with the highest expression level in the ovary. In addition, its temporal expression pattern was characterized, The expression level was higher in the early 3rd instar larvae than in the late 3rd instar larvae.
