A Helicobacter pylori infection can results in conditions such as chronic gastritis, a peptic ulcer, gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, and gastric cancer. Control of this bacterium has recently focused on use of vaccines. Urease is an effective candidate molecule for a vaccine. This review outlines the status of research on urease vaccines against H. pylori mediated by bacteria such as Salmonella typhimurium, S. typhi, Bacillus subtilis, Lactococcus lactis, and Agrobacterium tumefaciens and by viruses such as Poliovirus, Baculovirus, and Adenovirus.
