The multi-functional word Lian 连 has various usages in Chinese dialects, especially in dialects in the Northwest, much more than in Putonghua. The paper figures out the relations between these functions of Lian 连 in Chinese dialects. It also proposes the paths of the semantic change of Lian 连.
