In order to explore the course of development of the resources recycling industry in China, five indices including industrial concentration, geographical separation, Gini coefficient, Hoover coefficient and coefficient of EG were applied to measure the developing trend of the ever increasing aggregation of the renewable resources industry in China. Additional separate measurements were made, considereing the passage of time, size of firms and overall levels of aggregation. After considering those factors, data from twenty-six provinces was analyzed to examine the impact that those various factors exerted on the renewable resources industry between 2004 and 2009. The following results were obtained : ( 1 ) The degree of aggregation of the renewable resources industry in China has been shifting from a high concentration of the industry at the beginning from very few firms to more participating firms which are thought to be more competitive; (2) Developed regions such as Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Jiangsu had an intense degree of industry aggregation related to a high level of specialization in the renewable resource industry. Yet in regions such as Hunan, and other inland areas, aggregation and specialization remain at a low level; (3) Factors including neoclassical economy, new economic geography and policy regime had a significant impact on industry agglomeration. Such key factors as firm sizes, degree of opening and renewable resources were positive related to industry concentration. Expansion of firm size and the improvement of opening degree would be conducive to industrial aggregation. Finally, suggestions were proposed to enhance aggregation of the renewable resources industry to achieve better outcomes.
