The paper defines the concept of private economy,discriminates several main academic points of view about private economy and makes clear the nature of private economy.The foundation of market economy has important influence on private economy.The growth process of the pri vate economy in Beijing can be divided into three stages： recovery,start and stability.Since the 1990s,the number of private economy and the small and medium-sized enterprise in Beijing increases greatly,which has played an important role in solving employment,promoting industrial restructuring,pulling the regional economic growth,improving the comprehensive national strength and so on.At the same time,it also faces such challenges as economic and social transformation,system barrier and cultural differences.
