With the global increasingly serious ecological crisis, the forest ecological and environmental functions have become more and more prominent, for protecting the forest resources, forest products trade protection cause a temporary clamor. Did the forest products trade help to protect forest resources, or it reduce forest resources? With the per capita wood consumption as the pressure index of forest resources, based on 61 countries' cross-sec- tion data in 2010, this paper analyses the factors that affect wood consumption by using multiple linear regression models. The result shows that the relationship between forest products export trade and wood consumption is nega- tive, so forest products export trade helps to reduce wood consumption, and the impact of forest products import trade on wood consumption is positive, but compared with the use of native wood, forest products import trade is more conducive to reduce wood consumption. According to the result, the forest products trade is conducive to re- duce wood consumption and then helps to protect forest resources, so this paper puts forward the international community should promote the forest products trade liberalization, reduce the forest products trade barriers, and encourage free forest products trade.
