This paper is concerned with the standing waves of the coupled nonlinear SchrSdinger equations with harmonic potentials which describe the Bose-Einstein condensate under the magnetic trap. Using the constrained variational argument, the authors establish the existence of the standing waves for the system. Furthermore, the nonlinear instability of the standing waves is proved.
