Using Chinese publicly listed manufacturing finns, the authors divide the sample by the characteristics of product market competition for empirical testing in order to investigate how product market competition interacts with corporate leadership structure and corporate diversification strategy. By analyzing opposite results, the authors can define the scope of application of the stewardship and agency theory which provides a good analytical thinking for corporate institution design.
