城镇化是新疆工业化和现代化发展的必由之路，但是从新疆的人文和地理环境看，新疆的城镇化道路不同于内地任何一个地区。新疆地处西北边陲，是国家西北的战略屏障，特殊的内外部环境和多民族、多宗教、多文化、多生态等人文地理区域使新疆的城镇化道路具有特殊性——新疆的城镇化承栽着促进经济社会发展和维护边疆安全的双重使命。因此，新疆城镇化模式要做到城市规模适中、地域布局合理，使其既能发挥城镇化时经济的辐射和带动作用。更要符合保障边疆安全、维护祖国统一和社会稳定的要求。
英文摘要：
Urbanization is the only way to develop the industrialization and modernization of Xinjiang. However, in view of Xinjiang＇s geography and humanities, the urbanization of Xinjiang is different fi＇om China＇s eastern region. Xinjiang is the strategic barrier of China, which is located in the northwest frontier. The special internal and external environment and multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-cultural, multi-ecological human geography make the urbanization of Xinjiang with particularity, which bears the dual missions of promoting economic and social development and maintaining border security. Therefore, to realize the urbanization model of Xinjiang, we should make sure of a modest urban size and a reasonable geographical distribution so that it can not only promote economic development but also meet the requirements of protecting border security, safeguarding the motherland＇s unification and social stability.
