In the symbol system of The Book of Changes , there is a connection on the combination axis an d choice relationship on the polymerization axis between the hexagrams. The hexagram order and the relationship between positions of lines describe the combination of symbolic systems at different levels. While on the polymerization axis , guahua,guaciand diction reflect the selectivity of the aggregation relationship in different ways. The biaxial relation embodies rhetorical effect of the symbolic structure in the text of The Book of Changes . The elements of the polymerization axis have the metaphorical features of s igns , and establish a large meta-phorical system within the traditional culture. The elements of the combination axis constitute the rhetoric effect of metonymy, and play an important role on the symbol expressive of The Book of Changes .
