"Regional studies" is widely addressed in Chinese anthropological academia, yet three problems impede the progress of "regional studies". This article identifies problematic trends in "regional studies" and proposes possible solutions as a counter-force. The mainstream paradigm in "regional studies" emphasises the local peculiarity; hence, in order to reverse the "involution" trend due to lack of adequate interdisciplinary awareness, the"counter-hegemony" world system theory, the"humanism" regional history and the "reflexive" InterAisa cultural studies serves as inspiration. Also, by reviewing how Fei Xiaotong flexibly transfers between the new phenomena and abstract thinking during his twilight years, we can break out of conventional thinking that merely view region as a geographical concept. "Region" should not as the single object of theoretical thinking in "regional studies"; thus, by introducing "mobility studies" and "the anthropology of emotions" as two creative potential issues, we can produce more insights instead of banalities in this field. Together, we can yield more profound anthropological insights about the very character of the time in which we
