In Dadi Town, the east highland of Guizhou, the traditional cultures of the Shui People contain the local knowledge of water, which has been manifested in local people's collective consciousness on how to interpret and use water resource appropriately and has also been an effective instrument for Dadi residents to fight against droughts and other natural disasters. However, influ- enced by modernity, the local knowledge integrating culture and eco-environment is at risk of heritage as other traditional cultures do. The loss of local knowledge has brought more vulnerability to local communities when natural disasters occurred. The heritage and promotion of the local knowledge that is related to the ecological adaption and protection will help the locals deal with disasters and pro-mote sustainable growth in minority regions.
